It has been a long 15 months of little travel, little vacations, and no cruises for residents of the United States of America. However, the past few weeks that has changed and I cannot be more excited.
One of my favorite forms of vacation is cruising. Nothing like getting away for days on end, being taken care of and waited on during all waking hours, never going hungry, traveling to new destinations every day or two, and the list just goes on.
Over the past few weeks, many cruise lines have resumed operations from the US under the CDC’s modified Conditional Sail Order (CSO). A few cruise lines already started cruising in the Caribbean earlier this summer, but we finally have cruises departing from US ports which opens a lot more travel options.
Celebrity Edge was the first ship to set sail for Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. She departed June 26th for a 6-night cruise with ports of call in Mexico and the Bahamas.
Celebrity’s sister brand, Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Sea set sail July 2nd for a short 3-night sailing to the Bahamas. Carnival Cruise Line sets sail from both Florida and Texas. Carnival Horizon departed July 4th from Port of Miami and on July 15th Carnival Breeze will sail from Galveston.
Later this month the Alaska season starts, thankfully due to bill H.R. 1318, which allows cruise ships to bypass a requirement to stop in a foreign port.
Each day new information of updated itineraries and protocols are released. Requirements today may be mere suggestions in the future.
